It is unfortunate to crash, and then crash again even though it was not his fault. (Protective Gear is Bought for a reason)
Get comfy on the 250 and enjoy while not falling over while getting used to the protective gear. The R1 is a good ride but maybe not the best choice at this time for your buddy.
