WR250R
I just got this month's Motorcycle Consumer News and it has a full test of the WR250X(the motard version ofWR250R)in it as well as a review of the '09 KLX250S. I just got home and haven't read it yet but there's a dyno chart for the WR250X and it shows it puts out 26.8 HP at the rear wheel. That's quite impressive. The top speed is 88.5 mph & a 1/4 mile of 15.75 sec. Even they said "remarkable output for a 250cc machine".
Yup- Me and a buddy just bought our first bikes this year. He got the WR and I got the KLX. His WR was $2000 more then my KLX at $8000 (CAD - We're in Canada) his bike is definitely faster then mine. On big air he doesn't even come close to a bottom out, and i definitely do. We switched up for a bit one day and man, the WR is a thrill to ride.
I went with the KLX for 2 reasons, shorter seat height (30" inseam), and since the price diff is $2G's in Canada, I didn't think that the HP and Suspension were worth 2G's more to me. imagine what you can do to a KLX with 2 grand?
IMHO.

In their review, MCN hinted that for $200 more than the WR250X, you can get the DR-Z400SM. Now for the size, the DRZ'sHP outputis nowhere as impressive as the WR250's, but 150 CCs is 150CCs. They dyno'd the DRZ at 33.4 HP vs the WR's 26.8 HP.
The thing with dynos is that the comparasion is only valid if you use the same one. So the DRZ/WR numbers herecan be directlycomapared. They also said the KLX300R dynoed just around 23 HP...does that sound right Brian? I know you did the 300 kit originally. The Yamaha XT250 was only 15.4. I used to have a XT225 which was noticeablyweaker than the KLX.The funny thing is, it wheelied very easily. Much better than the KLX.
I think 23 sounds in the ball park. I only dyno'd mine after going to 331, but other's have dyno'd the 250 + pipe and airbox mods and were seeing 21'ish. So it stands to reason that the 300 would be a few more than that.
