Default Wiring a USB

Tried searching but the search engine excluded USB when searching for 'wiring a USB.

I want to have it wired so that it only works when the ignition is on so that I don't accidentally drain the battery. Have any of you done this, and where/how did you connect the pos/neg to?

Thanks,
Cheech

I got one from ebay (double USB and larger socket) with on/off switch. Wired direct to battery.

Got mine from ebay as well, but without a switch. Surely someone has wired one to only work when the ignition is on?

Found on another site that as it is only drawing 5 volts, people just tap into the rear taillight. That would work fine as I am running led taillight that draws nothing.

If you have a battery tender plug on your bike.. they make a USB adapter and a volt meter plug-in
I know you want a switch... just my .02 but they work great.. I have both

I just saw this today. Looks like it has the switch you wanted:

I did end up wiring it into the rear tail light. The wiring for the light happens to run through just behind the airbox, so I was able to splice in to the red tail light wire there. And ran the negative straight to the battery. works well.

Here are two threads I created on the topic quite some time ago. Unfortunately, the pictures are no longer hosted but you'll get the gist by reading the threads.

This seems like a good option if you already have a tender wired in.

Where in here were you able to tap into a red wire?
