Default What is in your tool bag

I am assessing what I want to carry on the bike. I am new to this so I need some guidance. The bag that came with my 06 seems a bit lame. Some generic, tools and looks like a special wrench for the spring preload.

The only thing I can say is that they are light. Aluminum? They are really light now that I have left them at home. I would be better off with a leatherman than that set.

Not know what road repair are realistic, I would assume fixing a flat is doable, and mending a chain perhaps. So tire levers of some sort? Tubes? How about a chain breaker or master link? The tools to get the wheels off. Ok I think you got it.

Thank you. I need to start doing some wrenching on the bike to see what is essential.

Actually that is nice. You can add a 1/4 socket and then a couple different sized screw driver tips too.

I spoke with the inventor and owner on phone when I bought mine(i bought two: one to ride with and another for my home box. I read about them in Dirt Bike mag. He also makes one for KTM with their famous 13mm heads. The thing is great for removing those recessed nuts and bolts that a flat wrench can't access and it can replace those wrenches in your kit.

Other must have items: your favorite tire irons, electrical tape(a half-used roll to cut down on size), cotter pins, some zip-ties, and a basic asst of nuts and bolts. I also carry a small bit of safety wire. I carry a cheap, 3 x 6 poly tarp in my pack to lay a wheel or parts on to keep them out of the dirt and mechanic gloves. I have a lightweight alum jack that i bought from a fellow on adventure rider and I carry an inexpensive bicycle pump also. Its one of those high-tech jobs that fit on the downtube of a bicycle. They work well and you never have to work about C02 cartridges, etc. (Some like the CO2 fillers though-personal preference)

I forgot to add carry a good tow strap or rope, particulary if you ride miles off the beaten path.

I picked up a few items at sears today. I had some time to go goof off and the weather wise nice. I picked up one of those screwdrivers that you can change tips. However, the cool thing is that you can talk the end off and put it on the side of the handle to make a T-Handle wrench. Good for leverage if needed.

Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

I got a 1/4 drive adapter and a set of 1/4" sockets too.

What sockets do I need to carry? 8,10,12 for sure but any others?

I need to get a small 17 and 22mm. I am not sure I will need to drain the oil on the road. Actually I have not clue what I will need to do on the road.
