Default What is the top speed expected from a klx250s

Ive read that the klx250s is good for around 75-85 mph but ive had mine (09 klx) at 162kph/101mph now thats on the stock speedo. Had some tail wind helmet touching the handle bars 10500rpm 6th gear just screaming (had to try it). My buddy was behind me on a CBR929 his speedo (also stock) was showing 156kph our bike are always 4-5kph different. dont know whos bike is closer to the actual speed we were doing but some of his other buddies say his bike is the one off maybe i dont know. Ontil that day the most I ever got was 152kph has anyone else tryed this is anyone else hitting these speeds? Yes I know that this kind of thing is not safe to be doing and I am in no way asking anyone to go try this but if anyone has id like to know. My bike is a 09 klx250s with full fmf exhaust, uni filter, kdx snorkle, dyno jet kit just so you know what you are comparing you bike with.

If I want to go over 100 mph, I get on my CB919. My 09 KLX had a hard time making 65 mph into a stiff headwind the other day, when I was laying down on the tank!

I've seen 84 on the GPS fully tucked and blasting down a flat straight stretch of road.

My bike is stock pipe with DJ jet and backfire screen and smog removed.

I don't expect anymore than 80-90KPH as I got the bike geared for trails. 160KPH....that's what streetbikes are for.

I hope some of these speeds are from the supermoto version... I have had mine up to say 75ish, then it gets scary...

A bit over 80 MPH for a stock bike. I usually cruise at about 73mph or so in a 65 mph zone (indicated). Agreed EMS, it does get scary at those speeds.

Yeah, these bikes and most DS bikes with similar design have some hinky feedback at speed, but I've never had them actually do anything dangerous. I think the high fenders, rad shrouds, tall profile, geometry, knobbies, etc. all combine to make airflow and the tire contact patch to do some odd things. Even with the heavier KLR650, you get lots of complaints of this type of high speed behavior. However, I've noticed that you can just let the front end shake a bit, and I've never gotten anything more than a "weave" out of any of these bikes that didn't escalate to anything serious. It may feel a bit disconcerting, but I've never had these bikes really go berserk.
