Guess its good to know friends with shim kits. Used what I needed. Put my stock ones in his kit and have to by him a burger. couldn't be cheaper.

To buy the kit isnt even that bad.... I think i paid 80$ for mine. I would gladly pay that instead of rolling the dice taking it to a dealer.

thats just shy of 1/2 the price my local dealer quoted me, wont sell individual shims either. With the oilfield booming the cost of everything (and paychecks) has skyrocketed around here.

I think the hotcams shim kit assortments are like $70 on ebay. My local shop trades your old shims +$2 for a new one . Not bad.

I called the closest 3 shops near me, nobody will trade/swap shims only sell them each at $6-$8.
Anyone know if I can measure the clearance with the camshaft cover off?

No. The camshaft retainer has to be bolted in place to get an accurate reading.

wow! my guy swaps them for $8 each or $4 if it used. think to buy outright they were $17 each
