The 606 120 is a 120 size , in it's bigger than the 4.60 Dunlop D603 it replaced (OE) and it was wider than the 110 Pirelli MXExtra I replaced it with. It is wider than the 110 pirelli and I recon' a little taller too, as I remember the stand angle was way different once I fitted up the 606. I wouldn't go back to a 120 section now I've found the 110 MXExtra. It does everything better for em (my style and our roads/trails.) I've just purchased another 2.

Pics show OE Dunlop 4.60 D603, Dunlop 120 D606, and a new Pirelli MXExtra 110. Note how tall the 606 is compared to the 603 even though the 603 has more tread left. The 606 is a tall tyre.

Do you think there is a loss of power when using a tire like the 606 compared to the smaller 110 MXExtra?

Also, how is the tire on the road? Does it hold up pretty well?

There ya go, some solid information from someone who's checked. That always helps a lot more than guess work. My comment had to do with comparisons though. When the comparison is done and somene has experience that makes life easy.

There is some trade off with a heavier tyre, there are benefits too. The 120 606 is about 1kg heavier than the 110 MXeXtra. This is most apparent in the ability to break lose the MXeXtra at will. It wasn't the case with the heavier 606, clutch was needed and not always the desired result was the outcome. The upside was the wear. The 606 will last about 6500 km (80% off road) compared to the MXeXtra at about 5000km. There is also the inertia issue with the 606. As a positive, once the 606 is 'spun' up, it is harder to slow or deflect due to its increased weight. Think 'flywheel'. Particularly useful on snotty rutted hills.

The 606 is the best dual sport tyre, end of story. It will handle miles and miles on the road in all weather without issue and offer great grip, and offer serious grip off the road when aired down, I only wish it was a bit lighter and was available in a 110 section. If I was doing some touring (TAT etc) then I would fit a 606 on the rear in a heartbeat.

The MXeXtra works fine on road and holds up very well to high speed runs (70 mph.) Prolonged use on the tar doesn't appear to affect wear too much. The ***** are still very pronounced on my current rear despite around 2000 km. They're only just starting to round off on the rear. It doesn't inspire the corner confidence that the 606 does, but I'm riding to the trails, not road riding. Also having an XCMS on the front will curb any SM antics.

Out of all the tyres I've used this is so far the best combo I've found. Bear in mind my riding is 90 % off road (read DRY, I live in the desert) and the 10 % road riding is generally 60 km slow urban roads that lead to the dirt. I've stocked up just of late nad have 2 new MXeXtra 110's and 2 XCMS fronts in the garage. Should see me through the winter.

I bought two of those MXeXtras that you were talking about. They will be here tomorrow. I'll be doing an equal amount of on road and off road riding so hopefully they will be okay. What are the XCMS's that you are talking about?
