the '08 Ninja 250R engine has been extensively updated along with the rest of the bike. Check it out, I've heard it makes MORE power. I had an '01 Ninja 250R for a month and had it topped out purner near 120 mph. The new one will outhandle the old one severely and looks 1000 times better as well. The old ones will be given away now with the 1985 styling.
I agree totally with what you're saying except on the engine. Kawasaki made some changes to the cam profile and cylinder head port design to give much better low to midrange power. But peak HP is actually lower now, and the '08 weighs more.

I'd like to see real numbers, but I don't see how, in any way the new 250R is going to top out faster than the old 250R.

I had almost 35,000 miles on my KLR and loved it, but sold it last year - wish I hadn't. It is a big bike and rather unruly on tight trails but otherwise I'd get another as long as it was pre-08. My Kawi/Honda dealer here is willing to give me a pretty good trade in value for my KLX - he has two new '07's still in stock, pretty tempting!
Listen to me Mark.............you will like the 08 KLR...................you will comply.......................your eyelids are getting heavy.........................your getting sleepy....................When you wake up all you will remember is that you like the 08 KLR now................................oh..........and send me all you money.......

That does look real good. And it would be nice to own the road. I just wonder if they will need a spatula to scrap me off the road after I crash . That bike looks like it going 100mph standing still!!

I know, to each his own - but the KLR '08 IMO is but ugly, I know it's a better bike than earlier models but I just couldn't get use to that batcycle fairing!

Now the 610 Husky is absolutely sweeeeet looking!!

the exhaust makes a huge difference on the new bike. how can it go faster than the ancient model? have you taken a look at the bodywork? that alone will make it faster. you can't tell me they updated the bike to only have it make less power and be slower than the old one? this is kawi's best selling motorcycle in their lineup. that won't fly with buyers. I'm sure it's still pretty much gutless compared to 600's, but even if it is slower and makes less power than the old one, I'd still buy one over the old bike. it's downright hideous when the new one is sitting next to it. I'd like to see some dyno proof of your claims of less power.
