Is there a Starting Problem Fix?
sorry for the double post but i also thought of another avenue..the battery..I know there areother batteries on the market that may provide a higher cranking amp rating than what the OEM battery is..are we all still running the original battery? just curious I know when the batteries go in our daily drivers, I tend to buy the one with the highest cold cranking amp rating that fits...makes winter starting easier.

I still have the stock battery. I have one battery tender that I rotate between my three bikes. They all pretty much stay fully charged at all times.
I use premium petrol
I had trouble starting my bike with the stock carb
I replaced the carb with the Bill Blue Mikuni TM33/34
I have done NO other engine/carb/airbox mods (apart from filter sox added while still on the Kehin carb, made no difference to starting)
Now I have no trouble at all starting the bike.
From cold 2 twists of the throttle, choke on, hit the button and it starts every time, even after sitting for a week or more. When hot no choke, 1twist of the throttle, hit the button and it starts. Every time
Cheers

Ummm, I hate to get in on this volitile subject, but I'm pretty sure that it has nothing to do with the battery voltage being lower. My KLX will start with a dead battery. That's why I put the kick starter on it. So nix that theory.
What does it say in the manual for proper shutdown technique? Silly me, I have had my Honda CRF450X for two years and never read it. My manual says to properly shut off the bike, to turn the fuel off, give it 2-3 medium cranks on the throttle, then use the kill switch to shut off the bike. It says, otherwise, it may have a hard time starting.
So I pose a new question; is letting the Kawai bike drain the fuel all the way out, completly necessaray? Has anybody tried turning the fuel off, revving it a few times and shuting it off? I'm wondering if it only needs to drain a little bit, rather than all of it, which would be much easier and in my opinion, acceptable.
What do you guys think?

I can give that a shot..will start bike up this evening before heading to work (currently it sits w/o gas in the bowl-let it run with gas off until it quit), so i start her up, go for a spin, then shut off the fuel, a couple last blurps on the throttle and kill it via the kill switch..check back in a week or so?

But with the Alternator being rebuilt in the Dodge truck, I actually had no choice but to ride another bike in the garage. Sheesh, they wanted almost $300.00 for a new alternator, or I can have mine rebuilt with better parts for 1/3 that.
Im gonna throw my 2 cents in here (for what its worth!) I agree with the fuel theory, Now I have no scientific evedince or research studies, but in the subterranim mole labratory I used "Sta-bill" in my generator gas and poured the balance of the gascan in the KLX after the last trip 5 weeks ago, have not touched the bike since and it started right up! I did not drain the bowl or add any additional fuel, just turned the fuel on...Hit the magic e-start button vroommmm.
