Struggling to Get 2009 KLX250S to Rev >5,000 RPM
This is my problem;
My bike seems to be limiting the engine speed as it approaches 5,000 RPM.
- I recently removed my carb and cleaned the Pilot Jet because the engine would not start. After doing that the bike started great with almost no need for using the choke when starting. I rode it a couple of times and it seemed fine, but the other day when I needed to go up a steep hill and gain some speed it basically refused to rev above 5,0000 RPM even with the throttle pinned.
- One other point, when I put everything back together after cleaning the Pilot Jet, I accidently had one of the Carb tubes too close to the exhaust and it melted. It is the tube on the right side of the carb, on the parts diagram it is indicated as #92190 (Tube 5X8X430). As a quick fix I used a piece of smaller diameter tubing I had lying around. It is about a 1/16 of an inch smaller then the OEM part.
COULD THE SMALLER DIAMETER TUBING BE THE SOURCE OF MY PROBLEM? I WAS GOING TO REPLACE THIS WITH AN OEM TUBING BUT BEFORE I DO I THOUGHT I WOULD ASK....
Thanks,
Allen

Assuming the smaller diameter tubing is open, it shouldn't be a problem. I'm thinking that whatever junk may have clogged your Pilot has now clogged your Main Jet. See if you can identify if it is pieces of rubber bits, or something like that, which could alert you to fuel line degradation or petcock o ring degradation. It COULD be trash coming from your fuel tank, too.
yeah could be your plunger... mine gets stuck sometimes and cuts out, and i have to take something like a wrench and tap the top of my carb and it un-sticks itself.. haha its so crazy... ever since I flooded it in the Everglades. good thing i'm selling it and starting over iwth a almost-new one when I move from Florida to California this week ;]
but my eyes are out for a Green DRZ if you know what i mean...
