Help! My bike will not rev past 5000 rpm
I have a four stroke twin Kawasaki EX500 which was sitting for a few years. Just put a new battery in and got it running and inspected, but have a question about a little bug. Under load, it will not rev past 5000 rpm, so it will only go about 60 mph. Not under load (in neutral), it will rev past 5000 rpm. Do you have any idea what could cause this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Kim

Hmmm... Do you hear any odd noises when it refuses to rev higher? It almost sounds like it's not able to hold the higher compression... Which brings to mind all sorts of bad things that could be wrong. Of course, it could be something simpler, but it's hard to tell.
Have you tried all the other typical tune up stuff? spark plugs, clean carbs, etc... ?
