Default Steering system question

Has anyone taken apart the entire front end? I took a bit of a digger today on my KLX and when I got it back up, the top clamps seem to be twisted slightly to the right. So when the wheel is straight, the bars are tilted slightly to the right. In looking at the parts involved, mainly the top and bottom clamps that hold the fork tubes, it seems unlikely that they would bend. What it looks like happened is that the top just got twisted back a little, so when you try to feed the tube back up, it's off center into the top clamp. With the exception of taking a hammer to it, is there an easy way to twist it back without taking the entire front end apart?

put the front wheel between your legs and twist the handlebars back to where you want em. i used to do that on my kdx all the time.

Yea chances are you didn't bend anything, all you did was tweak it like a bicycle. Just loosen slightly the clamp bolts and like was mentioned just put the tire between your legs and twist. then re-tighten the bolts and you back in business.

I did that too yesterday....Do like HE said and hold the front wheel between the knees and push it back over......or loosen the triple clamps and then move it...which would be alot easier.
I went down at the top of a hillclimb that had some Waaaayyyyy soft stuff and the front just washed out and I let it go....not worth the effort of trying to stop it.....If a bike is going down please step away from it so you don't get hurt......It's alot easier to tumble away than to tangle with the machine.

It could have been a whole lot worse. I was on a hard packed forest raod going about 50, came around a corner too fast but there was gravel on top of the hard pack in that spot. So i couldn't use the front break, ended locking up the back, rear wheel starts to swing out and right in my path were a couple of bikes on the side of the road. So it was either try to hold it and hope to miss them, or put it down, so down I went. I probably had it slowed down to around 15 or 20 when I went down, so it wasn't too bad. I would have pulled it out if those people weren't there.

But it's like you said last weekend, if you don't go down or break something, you're just not pushing hard enough. It was a niceday for a ride though.

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a shot and see if I can get it to straighten out.
