Me and a mate r planning to do the simpson desert in 09 winter. I know its early but a trip of this magnitude takes some planning and bike prep (and wife nagging) so giving anyone who is interested a years notice!! Even any takers from overseas??

Any other takers from AUS?? I will likley be leaving Brisbane my mate from Sydney and meet up in Birdsville (only 1,688 km to the start!!). Better than 1,988km from Sydney i suppose.

So far 1 klxs09 and a dr250- although both will have 300 kits by then for that extra bit a grunt for luggage.

I'd wouldn't mind a crack at that.
Hard work on a small bike.
A lot of sand.
But some guy went round Aus on a postie bike!!

 

Perth would be one hell of a trip - and yes if guys on postie bikes can do it, well we can.

Anyhow i always found that the big bores used too much fuel, were too heavy, wore chains and tyres out etc.. The 300 kit should help heaps in the sand i reckon. I intend to prep at a place near Newcastle called stockton beach which is just about 30km x 5km of huge sand dunes near the beach to get my gear setup right.
