Default Simple oil filter question since I don't have an owner's manual

Is the oil filter located in the round gold fixture on the right side of the engine above the clutch assembly and below the bend in the factory exhaust? What size is the drain plug?

Yes, this is my first oil change. I hada 600 mile dealership service at 800 (after an extra 3 week wait for service) and now I'm rolling up on 1700 miles.

yes that's it. those are 8mm bolts. it's spring loaded so have a rag ready. the drain plug is a 14 mm.

TIP...put a rag under the filter housing and wedge it between the skid plate to catch any stray oil.....OR have a can of brake clean on hand to spray it down when your finished.
To save you a question.
Either put a dab of grease on the filter spring or turn off the gas and lay your bike on it's side to install the oil filter.I usually grab a dollop of grease that is CLEAN and stick the spring. On your next service it will still be there holding the spring.Just a tip.
Also get a sharpie marker and write your date and mileage on the filter housing when your done (wipe with brake clean first and let dry). It will eliminate any guessing on your service date.
I write the date and mileage of when i serviced and then i go from there....It varies for me if i run offroad or just onroad.Just some tips that i thought i'd share.
