Shifting issues after lowside - reluctant into first, hangs on upshifts

which seems to describe my situation. I can't actually see that the mounting boss (or anything else) is bent, but something must be.

Problem solved!
I finally decided to do something I had considered before, and shim the old, bent return spring stud so it is installed 180 degrees rotated from its original position. With that done the gap between the pawl teeth and the star nubs was about even. Bolted it back together and it shifts like a charm now.

I'm going to go back in eventually after I get some better shim washers, new neutral disk (don't ask) and retaining bolt, and a new gasket for the cover.
