We could debate for hours(In a friendly way I hope). There's a happy medium here. My KLX is bone stock & gets synthetic every 1,000 miles or sooner. I've never seen metal in the oil or filter(which I tear open at each change). The oil looks new when it comes back out. I'm not normal, I admit it. But, under normal circumstances I think 50,000 miles should be obtainable.

I think I'm gonna start recording compression tests. Anyone got an idea of what compression is of a klx with 1000 miles or so? Actual value that is- not what manual says. Then when compression gets to a point -say 10 -15 percent less then I guess it will be time for ring job.

Yeah I am at fault with my rings... I was a complete newb when I got my bike and I didn't quite do what I should have done...By no means am I saying that it's a fault in the bike I know it's mine and no one else's. I haven't gotten a compression test done yet..I am going to get one before I buy rings and tear it down...I am not sure it is my rings yet...

I still lose oil...but I think it is either my oil filler cap o-ring...or my clutch cover gasket...It's going to be a work in progress to figure it out...

Like I said before if it is my rings I am not pointing fingers at my bike...It is completly my fault!!!

I don't think you can do a true compression test on the bike due to the decompression valve on the cam. You would need to pump compressed air through the spark plug hole and do a leak down test.

Isnt there a way to de-activate the decompression? I havent investigated it yet but i was thinking there was. Something involving ACR valve.
