Here is a DS Ninja.

Versys & Ninja 650R Custom Dual Sports - TWT Forums

There are a few DS Versys around. Much heavier than a KLX but smooth on the road.

Mine is an 08. Bought it last January with 500 miles on it. I paid $4500. Used Versys are a better deal. New models list for $7900. They are slim pickings as they haven't sold a ton of them but they can be found. May be the best all around bike out there. Not necessarily an off-roader unless you do some mods however as a mid-size sport tourer it is an awesome bike.

This forum has Versys listings for sale, For Sale - Kawasaki Versys Forum

My one riding buddy took a Yamaha FZ1 and put yz forks on it and 950 adv rear suspension and swing arm and made a 1000cc dual sport.... i rode it... its scary fast and fun.

Its the bike to the left of my KLR.

between the DRZ and my KLR

On the ride in the first picture he had a unplanned meeting with a tree and it got his right foot pretty good and took the rear brake lever off.
