Ride report: Okay Ive spent a few weeks on the berg now.. and here is what its like:

Its light.. stable on rutted sandy snotty stuff.. it sort of floats over terrain like an MX bike. The power is phenomenal like any where you hit the throttle, it just roosts and the whole bike lurches forward. Its quiet at low rpm's but the airbox cover is the top of the seat so when the throttle body opens up it gets loud. It vibrates alot.. thats one thing I like about the KLX is lack of vibration. On the street it is ridable with the Metzeler enduro3's but I like the KLX better on the street hands down. Overall, if I would do it all again (buy a second bike) I would get the Husky TE-630. I like more dual sport oriented bikes, the berg is a great enduro bike, but not for dual sporting. Hope everyone got something out of my little review.

Here is my 2nd ride, Versys. I bought it about a year ago and love it. Just painted the back sub-frame, lower fairing and plastic piece from the tank to the seat. I think it makes it a little sportier looking.......

 

I can see one of those in my future... The KLR is awesome, but i dont use it for as much dirt, most of my stuff is pavement. I could easily do it on the Versys. Nice touch with painting the parts, looks good.

 

The versys... sweet ride.. I was considering one as my second bike.. it is really a dual sport right?

I went to a TAT slideshow presentation the other night at a local DS club. He did the whole ride on a DRZ400 if I remember right. He said a Versys could be ridden on much of the ride, but there were spots where clearance would be a big problem, especially around parts of Utah near Moab and maybe Nevada. Bypass those parts on your Versys.

 

I'd take a KLR650 over the Versys every time off-road. The exhaust pipes aren't protected well enough on the Versys, I THINK it is even heavier than the KLR, and the cockpit is much more restrictive on the Versys. The guys that have them out here in the desert laugh whenever anyone asks them if it is OK as an off-road bike....they don't ride them off road in the desert.

Plus, the KLR is really cheap.
