runnin in deeper water...
Hey guys, i have been riding in a couple really wet areas.. and after the ride i look in my big gun and it looks like some muddy water went in the end of it, (i have the quiet core out). Should i be worried about water gettin down the exhaust while riding in some deeper water, it splashing in or something? I was thinking to put the quiet core back in for that kinda riding, less chance of anything gettin in the exhaust with it in.... What do you guys think? also is it bad to take out bikes through kinda deep water? like 12" or a little more?
i wouldnt be to worried. the only downfall i can think of is you might have to repack sooner if the water touches packing. but the exhaust is so hot it would evaporate before it ever got to the engine.
also, i've been in water way deeper the 12". i wouldnt want to get so deep where electrical components started getting submerged, but some splashing isnt going to hurt anything. all this stuff is pretty sealed up for off-roading. my opinion. keith

I put mine off into a mudhole once that didn't look all that deep ... turned out to be higher than the front fender. [:-] Bike never had an issue with it - throttled right out of it. It did freak me out at the time. My buddies I was riding with at the time were both laughing and amazed.
I suppose that you have never seen my bike in the mudhole then have you?? Well even after that little fun dive under mother earth, I still did not have any mud in my exhaust or in my air filter, amazing isn't it? I thought that my bike was gonna be messed up, but it came out clean as it could be, even though DEEJ had to be taken to the hospital after I posted my pic because of the extent of the mud that was on the bike

lol.... yea i did see that.. but mud is a little different than pretty much just water, and was just curious. i btw i was on the road next to my wife in her chevy hhr, and we raced, just playin around, i won off the line but she caught up fast... she said that my exhaust actually hurt her ears as i went flyin by at 9000 rpms... hehe... the quiet core was out! perfect!
I know for a fact on the KLR650, which uses a Keihin carb also, but a 40 mm - there is an air vent that looks quite similar to that on the KLX250. There are reports of getting in deep water where the bike will stall out as water is clogging that vent line. The fix is called the "T-Mod" and is comprised of putting a plastic "Tee" on the vent line and running an additional vent up under the seat. Logic is that the engine will always have the carb vented to air.
Anyone try this yet?
