Road trip to see my cute 1yr old niece.
I had to go see my niece, she's one and I hadn't seen her since Thanksgiving.
My sister-in-law sent me a message a few weeks before the trip asking when we would see each other. I told her the end of September would be perfect. And she said NYC (where they live) or Cape May? As a Jersey boy, I said Cape May, I also had never been there. So we planned for the weekend of September 27-28.
So it was a quick trip on a low budget, which meant I had to take the bike.
I ripped off my bald front D606 and put on my Shinko 705, loaded the saddlebags, put the sheepskin on and was ready to go Thursday night. I took a vacation day on Friday, so I could ride all day.
Ready to go...

Not far from home is the top of the pass, this shot is looking back towards my house...

Here's the route I took. 9hrs in a car, more like 11 on the bike. But the weather was perfect!

Slabbing sucks on a 250, but it's cheap and the KLX can keep up, enough...
Anywho, I left at 10:30AM. My brother, his wife and daughter, weren't going to be there until 11PM, so I figured I try and arrive around the same time. I beat them by 30 minutes or so.
The last leg in Jersey, heading down the Parkway, was magical. I'm a sense driven guy and the Parkway runs through the marshes along the coast. It was definitely at low tide. The smell drives many crazy, but to me it is the smell of home. In the dark, bombing along at 70mph (GPS, not speedo) I was thinking of nothing but mussels and crabs, which beat thinking about how soar my *** was at the moment.
After a good nights sleep and spending most of the day with this one...

I went for a quick sight seeing spin.
First stop, Cape May lighthouse.

Second stop, Fort Miles. It was a WWII USCG lookout tower and base.
Some shots of the tower and a gratuitous bike pic...

Last stop of the evening before heading back to dinner was literally the end of the road...Sunset Beach. Apparently only 1 of 3 places on the east coast where you can see the sun set over water from the mainland.

I was a little early for sunset. So I headed back for dinner. After all, I was about to learn how to make Hollandaise from a French chef! And I was about to have mussels and crab!
But first we all went to another more private beach with the same benefits as Sunset Beach.

Had a great, but short visit! Loaded up Sunday morning and then went for a nice breakfast with the family. Headed home around 9:30AM. Made it home around 8:30PM with a very soar *** again.
Bike ran perfect, used a drop of oil due to the fact it was near WOT the whole way.
Even had a MassPike toll taker talk me up about the bike. She was psyched to see a dirt bike on the road, she had grown up riding in the dirt and said she would love to ride a bike again. I told her it was a DS, not a true dirt bike, but close enough and she should go get one. I somehow managed to wheelie out of there and she gave a big holler and thumbs up.
Oh and turned over 34,000 miles on my favorite road, in a big left hand sweeper.
It's called the Kancamagus Highway, I live off of it, but don't get to ride my favorite part everyday.
It'll soon be time to toss on the studded tires. Winter is coming. Get out and ride!

Cool, thanks for the Montesa lead. I'm going to do some interweb digging.
It had a leather strap like a belt holding the tank in place. It looked like it needed nothing but a freshly oiled air filter, some pre-mix, and a rider.
