HP is a stupid measurement.
No way, if we ever meet, the beer is on me, my friend.

And I would paraphrase and say that a Dyno is a stupid instrument. But it's about the best when have, warts and all.

This is what you office guys do... you freaking think too much. You'll sit here for hours debating on what can or will happen instead of just going and doing it and seeing how it works which is the easiest and least stressful. Holy crap, you'd think you were talking about sending a man to Mars with all this talk. (I'm sarcastically joking with you of course, all in good fun you know)

All I know is this. I've owned, ridden, and worked on many machines across the spectrum....most of which had small light flywheels. MX 4 strokes have the smallest of all, they are like a pencil eraser, ...... and they rip. They hook up, and they have bottom end and top end and they don't stall. I figure the same principal will work here. Not as well because they decided to put a backwards flywheel on and therefore the entire weight can not be removed because part of the weight itself is used as a spacer and then the stator wouldn't fit. So you can only take about half of the weight off so that will have to do. I figure this things gonna snap better much like what people say a pumper carb will do. Not exactly like that, but I figure it will have that much of a noticeable impact, like as in when you ride it for the first time you'll be grinning ear to ear.

I could be wrong but I don't give a freaking crap because this is a super simple mod with pretty much no consequence. This is less intensive as jetting because with jetting theres things of all spectrum to screw up and dial in and blah blah blah, this is just remove wheel, shave weight, reapply wheel, ride. If it works yeehaw, if not go on ebay and get another one, or worse comes to worse spring for a new one. Or depending on how the old one was removed you could reweld a new weight or possibly even the old one back on. Or rivet it or bolt it or whatever.

No math equations, no bickering, no beer buying............well maybe beer buying, not drinking before riding, only after

End of story.

Physics major...that explains it. I always wondered about your approach to things.

But one thing I have learned is that education means nuthin....I don't know how many PhD's I have worked with that were entirely worthless in the real world.....besides if you check around I think you may notice I chump engineers quite often...sheet they let me be one so that pretty much proves it ain't hard.

Ha ha, you figured us out, Jason. But in my defense, I no longer have a KLX with which to do this mod. And believe me, I did plenty. This one sounds pretty fun to me, and should be simple. And what's the worst that could happen? You buy a new flywheel or pick up one off e-bay or something if the mod totally goes pear shaped, but I doubt that will happen.

That's kind of what I was thinking, too. Like I said, do it! Report back.

No argument here, I've had my share of those experiences too. That's why I pretty much ignore degrees. And no offense, but I get wary when folks start dropping them during a discussion - it makes me even more susp-icious of them. Present company excluded, of course.

Reducing the weight of any part of the the engine, should increase power output.
But not by much.
All your theories assume a frictionless world.
It takes some energy just to keep it spinning at a constant speed without any load.
The heavier the motor components, including flywheel, the more energy it takes just to keep it spinning.

When trying to extract max hp from any engine, lightening the flywheel, and anything else for that matter, is always on the list.
