Has anyone considered the rotor /stator iimplications when doing this. Are you changing the position of the rotor to stator? If so you best have installed a kick start.

Changing the mass of the rotor/fly wheel will NOT increase power or torque. DO the MATH!
I don't seem to recall the flywheel mass as part of the horsepoer / torque formulas.

It will allow the engine to rev up faster but will all cause a rougher idle and unstable rpm transitions.

If thats what you want go for it.............. It will cost you to go back.

Oh but why? I'd not remove any flywheel mass from this bike.

The KLX has a relatively high primary drive ratio, making 1st gear high, especially with stock gearing. If you do any slow work requiring clutch feathering you'll see a singificant increase in tendency to stall. If you like those surpise 'thud' stalls and occassional fall-overs go right ahead, if you're OK with the thrill coming at a cost to useability.

Don,

I doubt it is going to cause any problems, and you are absolutely right, it won't add power, but it will change the character of the power delivery. It will rev quicker and have more "burst" when you whack the throttle open. On the downside, it will be more jumpy in the tight technical stuff, maybe a little harder to control, and might be a bit more prone to stalling and won't lug as well.

As someone pointed out, a common modification to an MX bike to make it more woods-worthy, aside from revalving the suspension, is to *add* weight to the fly-wheel to smooth out the power hit. This is just doing the reverse.

I think this mod is pretty interesting, I'd like to hear some feedback from someone who has done it. I bet it really livens up the KLX.

No...don't worry about it, its cool. 3/4 of what I say probably shouldn't be posted anyway

All I said was for those dudes to stop posting incorrect information and starting up new myths driving fear into people that didn't need to be. Much like the sprocket size issue. Thats all. Then I finished it by saying people don't jump down pumper carb threads, why is everyone taking this so personally?
