red hot header... need help.
i took out the smog crap, did the CC mod and only moved the jet up to a #120 (i know its not much but i have more on order 125 and 128 i think with the #40 pilot i belive and the needle and such..) This is my first bike so this is my first time doing all of this i'm sure its pretty simple answer... but why is my header getting red hot? i didnt really increase the air intake much, just added a k&n filter... and i havent changed the exhaust (havent drilled the baffels yet) so any advice would be great. (i'm not riding the bike untill i kinda figure out whats going on... i think its too lean, needs to be re jetted and should probably have the exhaust drilled out or replaced with an after market when i get the cash) ps... how does the air fule screw work? 1 turn out from your origional position or 2.5 out from all the way closed... i've heard two diffrent things.
most of the 4 stroke engines of today if you see them run at night the header will glow red I bought a new Yam YFZ 450 and the first night I had it running and the header was GLOWING red...... Its normal because the bikes now days are set up very lean from the factory to meet EPA standards.....If you rejet you should be fine
my heart was kinda racing on that one... i thought i may have done some pretty good damage by not re jetting or something.... so I'm not going to like blow my engine if i go and ride it around??? maybe I'll put my foam filter back in for good measures
Don't open up the airbox lid - keep it restricted with the stock snorkel until you can rejet with that 128. Fuel screw should be lightly seated, then backed out. 2 to 2.5 out is typical.
Also, don't forget the needle - N1TC, w/clip and collar, clip on 3rd position is typical. Check the common part numbers thread for part numbers. Some folks use a spacer for the stock needle, but the N1TC w/clip allows for a broader range of adjustment.
