raISE THE ROOF I GOT A JOB!

And of course, the founding fathers had you in mind, too. You are free to not work at a place that requires drug testing.
Congrats on the job.
Nothing wrong in organic. "I am not a supporter of recreational drug use. I am not judging anyone who does use it as that is not my place to." My elderberry jelly and apple butter turned out good this year. lol

As someone who has taken on the self employment thing to feed my family over that last 9 months I can recap these good and bad points.
The Good!
The ability to take your success into your own hands and watch that grow is incredible!!
You can make your own hours
You can take off work any day or days you want
The only people that will yell at you are your customers
You decide who you work with and if you dont like them, dont hire them!
You get make the policies
You can change company policy at any time
This is dependant on if you are dba or incorporated
You pay yourself what you decide your worth
There are alot of tax write offs
The BAD!
1 When the business suffers it your fault
2 If you want the business to succeed, you have to work more hours and sleep less
3 Your family time will be cut short because your always either working a job or finding the next job
4 The benefits package sucks!! Healthcare is way to expensive
5 There are no paid vacation days
6 There are no paid sick days
7 The taxes are enough to choke you out of business
8 You never seem to be able to pay yourself what your worth in the first year because the business takes most of what the taxes dont take
All in all if I had to do it again or if my wife was done with school, I would not give it up for anything.
However, kids need to eat, and my wife is still 2-3yrs away from graduating. I am 37yrs old and my body does not handle digging holes and pushing wheel barrels as well as it used to and I could not do this full time for the rest of my life. My bad knee from a military injury is realy painfull sometimes.
It met the needs and I am just glad to be back to work.

congradulations on the job.
As a small buisness owner (and by small I meen no more than two total employees in the 5 years so far) I can agree with all you said and have to add one more positive and one negitive,
Positive you feel like you are working to make yourself money not someone else.
Negitive I allways worry about how far in the hole I would be if the whole thing fails. I dont want to fail and also owe money.
But somehow everything gets paid and I am building inventory and tools so I must be doing OK.
Cheers and again congradulations on the job.
