Pumper Carb vs. Dynojet CV carb on 250 pot
#31
BTW, I did my first 75 miles after my initial "run-in" of about 50 miles. Got 50 mpg, which included about 30 miles of 70 mph highway with the rest mostly 4th gear sandy whoops. For comparison, prior to the 331, I got 60-63 mpg in the same terrain...but, I couldn't go 70 mph, and I didn't have enough torque to ride those sandy whoops in 4th...had to stay in 3rd while keeping the rpms up around 6000-7000.
I'm VERY pleased the way it runs with the CV carb. I don't know if I'd like a pumper better or not.

I just burned my first tank of gas on the 351 kit. Its an 09 SF. 132 jet, original carb, 55 mpg. First 70 miles were below 6K rpm. After that it was up to 8K. On the way back I saw an indicated 85 mph which should be about 79 mph. This thing runs great.
I took out the DJ spring, drilled the slide 7/64 and put back the original spring. It seems to respond better, but I changed the cylinder too. Still stock exhaust.
I think there is a difference in perceived power and real horse power. I doubt there is much dyno difference if both carbs are properly jetted. I bet the pumper feels better.

With stock air cleaner, snorkel and exhaust, I'd say you're probably right, David. I've got a pipe, Powerbomb, KDX snorkel, and Unifilter. With the stock 127 that came with the pumper carb, it wouldn't even run other than to idle. 137.5 is the smallest I had on hand so last night I bought a 135 and a 132

I have the KDX snorkel.
I also have a flat spot at 7K rpm in 5th or 6th cruising. Its not there wide open, so I think I need to lift the needle one notch. It just bucks and misfires if I hold the throttle steady under light to medium load.
I rode a bunch of expressways coming home yesterday. All 55 to 75 mph stuff and I could keep up and pass traffic like nothing. Its a whole different machine.
When I replaced the jug, I installed the bill blue block off thing for the air aspirator. I also put a plug on the carb where the vacuum line goes. I think it made the bike run richer at idle. I need to try to go IN with the pilot screw 1/2 turn give or take. I am at 3.25 turns out now with stock jet.
Can't ride at all today
