Pumper Carb
My vote is for the TM36-68. It's practically a straight bolt-on. It's cheaper than Bill's modded 34mm carb. It's more tuneable than the 33/34 Mikuni. The basic jetting has been fairly hammered out thanks to Mustang and Dan Moore. The 2 extra millimeters of carb venturi don't seem to be too much for the stock 250, and I'll contend the 36mm carb will definitely be more beneficial with a bigger bore kit. That said, there's nothing wrong with Bill's modded 34mm carb. I just think there are a couple of extra benefits with the TM36. I've been running one for nearly a year now with excellent results on 250S with a 300 cylinder. I've gotten amazing fuel mileage with this thing too, which I didn't really expect.
To the original poster...the model is a Mikuni TM36-68 as stated above. I got mine through my local motorcycle shop, but it actually came from a large wholesale distributor named Tucker/Rocky. There are numerous sources for this carb. You also need the appropriate jets for the KLX application.
zippets, what final jetting did you end up with from our conversations on PM's?
