Default Pumper Carb

I've just about had it with my stock (rejected) Keihin carb - So which Mikuni should I replace it with?

My vote is for the TM36-68. It's practically a straight bolt-on. It's cheaper than Bill's modded 34mm carb. It's more tuneable than the 33/34 Mikuni. The basic jetting has been fairly hammered out thanks to Mustang and Dan Moore. The 2 extra millimeters of carb venturi don't seem to be too much for the stock 250, and I'll contend the 36mm carb will definitely be more beneficial with a bigger bore kit. That said, there's nothing wrong with Bill's modded 34mm carb. I just think there are a couple of extra benefits with the TM36. I've been running one for nearly a year now with excellent results on 250S with a 300 cylinder. I've gotten amazing fuel mileage with this thing too, which I didn't really expect.

THX, Sounds good - Is there a specific model number? Where did you buy yours?

I've been contiplating replacing my carb too. It's unlikely I'll ever do a big bore though. What can you expect performance wise from say the TM36-68?

There's probably some source that has dyno'd the KLX with Bill's carb on it, but I don't know where it is. Some say that a pumper carb will only improve the response...a result of the squirter. I'm pretty sure that a KLX with an free-flowing airbox and full exhaust benefits at wide-open-throttle too. I know mine definitely pulled better and quicker to top speed with the 36 pumper. Kind of makes sense when you consider the totally smooth bore of these pumper carbs compared to the throttle plate and shaft obstruction the CV carb has. The bike is a whole lot more fun to ride. I probably wouldn't consider the 34 or 36 pumper unless I had an aftermarket exhaust. I don't think it would yield as noticeable a performance increase.

To the original poster...the model is a Mikuni TM36-68 as stated above. I got mine through my local motorcycle shop, but it actually came from a large wholesale distributor named Tucker/Rocky. There are numerous sources for this carb. You also need the appropriate jets for the KLX application.
