Power mods in what order?
Since I lowered my wifes 250S I am afraid to ride it as I bottomed it out the first time on a bump in the back yard and it made a metal to metal noise and I didn't want to break anything
. But the other day I had to turn her bike around for her by a lake (she was afraid to) and it seemed to me she could use even more power
. All I have done is the 13t sprocket so far and she liked that. She is happy with the bike as is but when we were riding the other day we had to pull out from a stop onto a highway with a blind hill so I told her to "go fast"! I looked in my rear view mirror and she was not going as fast as I would have liked...so I need to do more power mods in the interest of safety
. We are in Florida in the panhandle so we aren't much above sea-level. In fact we rode to Paxton the other day as its the highest point in the state and its 345 feet above sea level (we are at 235 feet above sea level). So, what is the order of the mods as far as inexpensive to finish? Can I rejet and re-snorkle without doing the exhaust? Will a slip-on exhaust be good enough or should I get a KLX300 exhaust? Which jets for my altitude? Dealer best way to purchase or a kit? So much experience here I may as well ask the experienced. Also, being I weigh 100 lbs more than her, does she do the testing while I adjust or can I test the bike and adjust?
Thanks,
Dave
Added: she weighs in at 135 lbs [8D]

Can she fan through the gears fairly fast? She ought to be able to with the 13T sprocket. Maybe some shifting and acceleration lessons should go along with the mods.
You haved opened a cam of wormsnow thatyou have broached the subject of full vs slip-on exhaust. I will weigh-in and say either/or since there is no more than about 1hp diffence and the stockheader gives you a bit more low end torque. If you plan of eventually going to larger bore, than I'd recommend a full system. FMF offers an excellent system for the KLX250S.
The performance mods kind of work in concert with one another. More fuel (jetting) requires more air (bigger snorkel or removing air box lid), but you want the increasedfuel and air intake to escape un hindered, so you'll have to replace that restrictive muffler with something more free flowing.
The number one 'no, no' would be opening the airbox without going to larger jets. That's really what you should base any order of doing the mods on.
Good luck!

She can shift fast as I had her showing off one day and she was actually keeping up to me (on a DRZ400) pretty good (of course I was being nice). She said she didn't hear me when I told her to go fast last time. But anyhow, I want to give her some more power. I will look at the FMF but could have swore I read about KLX 300 exhaust being used by some here...
Thanks,
Dave
