If the needle in the carb has adjustable clip positions, it's not a California carb.

I think the 2006 and 2009 are close. You can do the mods I did to mine and increase HP a good bit over the stock set up. This forum in my opinion is the BEST. I thanked a lot of people that helped that didn't even know it when doing my mods. My mods only cost a few hundred $ and greatly improved the performance. My mods are listed in my signature. Just search the forum and you will find the answers you are looking for.

I thought all stock ones, even those outside of California, came with the clipless needle.

Hey,,, I really appreciate all the input ... its giving me some things to think about.
I have heard that the 06 comes from the factory a lil bit on the rich side..... If I
open up the exhaust and get rid of the air cleaner lid and open up the screen behind the air filter without doin any carb work,,, is it gonna lean this lil beast out too much and i am gonna have a "melt down"?

The clip to clipless started with bikes destined to Calif. and spread to other states. I don't know which years the changes were made in other states. It's easiest to just check the needle.

If you open up the in and out and the bike runs like crap in mid to upper RPMs, it's too lean............a likely scenerio.

Cheapest mods with the greatest performance gain for me was just getting the dynojet kit (stage 2) and removing the airbox snorkel. Even with the stock exhaust it really opened the bike up.
