Default Newbie from Poland with 2009 EFI: A tale of power: Chapter 0.

Hi all!

Good to be born again for the KLX, after I've sold my H6F model back in 2015 (I regret this every day!) with a 2009 EFI model. Funny thing, when I originally got my H6F in 2011, I was disappointed with how 'lazy' the bike was; spent some time and money to fix that...but the EFI model is a disaster, even compared with the old good lazy 2006 carb model. Both bikes full stock. The '09 model runs soooo smoooth it seems like a perfect match for my son's PW50... So basically - more power needed. I love how silent the bike is tho.

To describe the desired power level: My typical use for the KLX is wandering around, exploring the neighbourhood, gravel-cruising. Whenever I need serious power, there is a bunch of other bikes in my garage, the screaming 200 EXC (2T) from KTM and a Husaberg 350 (4T). Both powerful and fast. And bloody expensive maintenance-wise So, basically, there is no reason to make KLX even close to these beasts. I want to keep the bike reliable, durable, comfortable... and silent. But some more crisp throttle response along with a bit more pull are more than welcome.

Current status:
- KDX200 snorkel onboard. Rode lidless for a couple of days, but too noisy. KDX snorkel seems to provide a good balance between the flow and the noise. And offers more protection when deep water crossing.
- clutch mod done
- MCM mod done with KACR spring removed. The bike starts way better (!) now, and I'd say there is some positive change - but still not there.
- EJK unit on it's way from the US. Can't wait to grab it!

Plans:
- change gearing from 14/42 to 13/43 (or 14/46, perhaps?)
- install and play with EJK

Questions:
- any other must-have mods for the stock displacement and OEM exhaust bike?
- what should be my next steps after I'm done with the EJK?
- is big bore the only ultimate way to make this thing fly? For logistics reason, the 292 oem kit seems to be the only option here.
- how do I de-restrict the oem exhaust system without making it roar?

Cheers, good to be here!

As long as the stock muffler is installed you cannot run lidless nor will you be able to significantly increase power levels.

Set the EJK as per instructions for a stock bike, BUT add 1/2 to 1 "light" in the zone(s) that control off idle to 6500 rpm. This is needed in order to help the MCM produce all it can.

Once you add a performance slipon or better yet, a full performance system, you can run lidless and reprogram the EJK with the appropriate tune (keep the addition of 1/2 to 1 light for the MCM, regardless of which tune you are running).. You'll have the biggy power you are looking for .

Hi yahoo666.

Now I am thinking yo upgrade my carburetor klx250 2004 to injection klx250 2012.
After reading a lot of "looking for the power" posts, I am quite a bit worry. I see that you have deep dive into the details. Don't you mind if I ask you few noob things?
What is the cost of all the listed mods you have? How much horsepower do you expect to see as a result? How much time did you spend on all the things? Was it worth it?

Best regards,
lpd3515.

A Bill Blue 351cc upgrade would put some fire into the beast if you went that route. The biggest hassle and expense other than the initial shipping would be the "core charge" for your old 250cc/300cc jug which is used for the next conversion.

Reprogramming for fuel injection might be a bit rough too.
