Default new bike, first changes

I've got about 1000 miles on her this summer. Now that weather is changing I feel more urgent about getting some barkbusters. I've read that its best to change out the bars too. Can anyone here that has changed the bars and installed handguards let me know what model they used of each? And I'm wondering about switching to a shorter clutch lever. Has anyone here done that swap? Again, I don't know what to get. Lastly, the foot pegs seem small to me. Has anyone changed to bigger ones?

The sky is the limit and every mod is going to improve this bike. It is like a blank slate waiting to a masterpiece

First, welcome to KF.
The stock bars are known to bend easier than aftermarket. I have some inexpensive Tusk bars, but don't remember the bend. I put on Tusk handguards on for a while, but upgraded to barkbusters when I found a deal on some from a member here. My levers are shorter by breaking off the buttons, then forming new buttons with heat shrink tape. The stock pegs kind of suck. I ordered IMS Super Stock pegs from an ebay vendor for a good price, but received the Pro series (which are more expensive, but quite pointy and sharp).

I put Renthal bars on mine along with Moose racing hand guards. I just cut off the round ends from the levers so pretty low tech, lol.
I still have the stock foot pegs and yes they are a bit small but my foot has never slipped off since 2009 so they aren't that bad.

You can stay with 7/8's inch bars with a cross brace and use the stock handle bar clamps. You can get fat bars that don't need a cross brace but you need adapters which raises the bars about an inch. May be in my noodle but the fatbars seem to take some of the wrist jolt out of sharp bumps.
Renthal - made in England. I think pretty much everything else is Chinese (not necessarily bad). I have Renthal fatbars, RC bend which seems identical to stock bend. Lots of peeps like the Reed/Windham bend and
taller folk like the CR high bend.

I have polisport hand guards I got really cheap. They look awesome, build quality is kinda mediocre IMHO. We'll see how they hold up when I wipe out.

I love my IMS pro pegs but pricey. Lots of wider pegs on fleabay. I love my wider pegs, one of the better mods I have made, big difference to me.

thanks yall. I may check out the tusk chub. I like the price. Concerned about having to mess with the cables with the adapter height it has.

I've had 4 KLX 250s since 2009 and done the same to all: ( Had 2 2009s, a 2010, and a 2013)

Dumped the stock skinny foot bending footpegs and put on DRC pegs. Nice pegs, best add on by far

Dumped those Elephant ear crappy mirrors and put on DRC folding mirrors, awesome when off roading.

Put on a Moose racing small rack on back. Excellent for hauling a tool bag or a small gas can

Added an Alloy skid plate

Added Dunlop 606 tires, since I ride off road about 70% of the time

Left everything else stock and runs great...never let me down even when I have been 60 miles out in the AZ desert all alone.
