Both could be dangerous, depending on the situation, it's kind of a no-win situation for the manufacturer. They had to pick what they perceived as the lesser of two evils. I imagine they've had plenty of meetings, opinions and arguments over which way to go, but it was probably hashed out years ago when they first started using kickstand safety switches.
I hear ya, I've wrote interlock programs for PLC's for various tasks before... writing the actual program is about 1/3 the battle... the rest is trying to trouble shoot the program by doing every dumb a$$ thing you could ever think of to make sure the machine won't turn on while ur heads in the machine if both A and B are depressed but C is off or some dumb thing like that lol. People will do anything to get a lawsuit goin...

Yeah, but isn't it kinda fun to try and imagine all the possible situations and dumb things that operators might do? Then you get to try and figure out how people will try and defeat or bypass safety features. I figure anyone can defeat a safety feature if they want to, but when that happens, it's nice if the safety feature can't be defeated without leaving evidence of tampering.

Thanks for the info. I took your advice and clipped the wires at the connector and spliced them together. It's a much cleaner approach. Obviously I removed the wire down to the kickstand but I left the switch in place.

Anyone's thoughts on leaving it or removing it. I assume it serves no purpose now.

That's okay. The original handguards shatter the first time they touch the ground. Really. The first time I dumped my bike, going about 2 mph, I brought home the right handguard in my pocket (in about 5 pieces).

Thanks-----Mine was a 2006 and never noticed the other models.
WHAT do you recommend if I want to put some on my 2012 KLX250s when I get it?
I think it might just add a touch of visibility "Bright Green" to the other drivers.

Thanks

I'm also using the Tusk barkbuster style handguards, and they've held up to some pretty heavy abuse so far. One of them got a little tweaked once, but I was able to hammer it straight again.
