Need info on handguard install

What I did was drill a hole in the ends big enough to fit a dremmel grinding stone into, and just ground it out. Took some time but it worked.

why dont you just use a tap and cut threads into the end of the bar? Then all you have to do is screw the bolt in it should take you all of 10 minutes. Thats what i did. It was easy
Not a bad idea...I will look into it when I install the new hand guards. How deep or how thick is the plug into the end and whats it made of?

Steel, it's not thick it's just a washer welded in there

The plugs in the end of mine was a lot thicker than a washer. Maybe an inch long or so.
