Default Need help, bike won't start

I have a suzuki/kawasaki klx 250 that needed a donor motor. I found one off a 300 and I transferred the stator from my 250 moto to the 300. Tried bumpstart in it without a battery and it not starting. I got fuel so I don't think it's getting spark. Can't use the electric start since I didn't transfer the magneto assembly and gears over but I will be able to kick start it soon. Is there a proper way to test for spark? Do I need a battery for spark? I believe it's a 2009-2013 bike.

brewster, I have one of those they work great. I just wasn't sure if I absolute need a battery to bump start the bike since I read that the new bikes ignition system is tied with the battery system. I was also wondering if I don't have the connectors hooked up to the neutral safety switch sonce the 300 doesn't have one, would that prevent the bike from receiving spark?

I have a KLX300, so I'm not very familiar with the wiring on your KLX250.
Sorry 'bout that.

Good luck
