Is it my battery or a bad connection
The same thing as original post has started happening to me over the last few weeks. It first died while running. It leaned out and then died, I chalked it up to running out of fuel.
I switched to reserve and it started right back up. I then noticed the clock reset and tripometers were at zero. Later when I stopped for gas it only took a gallon so I don't think I was actually out of fuel in the first place.
Twice in the last week now it has been tough to start and then during cranking I noticed the clock and tripometers had reset again. This morning I cranked for 3-4 minutes before it finally started. The battery is a few months old and has plenty of juice to crank.
OP - If you're still around did you ever find the problem? Or has this been addressed in another thread that I've not seen?

I have the exact same problem as OP and mmmbeefy. 2009 KLX250. Clock and tripmeters reset sometimes when I am trying to start it. Its like there isn't enough power and the starter motor also sounds like its struggling. Then the display flickers and resets.
Im really at a loss. Any ideas?

After a few more days it started acting like a low battery - I charged the battery and it hasn't done it since. I suppose the clock and tripometer reset because of low power even though the starter was cranking away.
Shrug. I suppose It's time to learn to be an electrician and see if the battery is charging or not.
On a side note, last night I tried the rectifier grounding mod, but the stumble is still there (and yes, I grounded the rectifier side of the wire, not the goes-to-infinity side).
