my 351 review(opinion)
Why the "stealership"? You think they ripped you off?
I will tell you they didn't. That is pretty much the going rate and he knocked an hour off because he knew his guys could do the job faster than Kaw's quote. As for $75/hr, they don't get their store and utilities for free., plus to keep mechanics they have to pay them a good hourly wage, otherwise the guys will be out like a shot. I'm betting you wouldn't want a minimum wage bumbler building your 351 and I'm betting the mechanic that built it tried to do the best they can.
How do I know this? I made a living in motorcycle sales for seven and a half years and helped out part-time in sales and parts for another fifteen years. I know what it took. In fact when I needed the top end done on my one bike I had the shop do it, figuring I could make the money to pay for it selling bikes and have it in about 2 weeks (parts order took a week). I could have done it, but it would have taken at least a month to work it in around full time work and working around the house. Made the roughly $450 I paid in 2000 well worth it.
Save the stealership names for the true rip offs and not the hard working shops trying to survive.

I always figure it is cheaper to let the professionals do any work and make my money the best way I can to cover it. If they mess up, they fix.
I can make more money doing my thing than messing about in the garage.
But I did mine, cause I wanted to wrench it. I made mistakes, I fixed it, but it cost me more than the shop would have charged in the end due to the mechanic (me). But one bucket list item checked.

Stealership is often used as a term of endearment. We all know we need them and MUST support them by buying most of our parts and some of our service from them. If not, they will fade away and then we really will be screwed. Having said that there are great ones and not so great ones, just like car dealerships and people in general. I for one will be doing my own 351 shortly because I like wrenching on my stuff myself. Looking forward to it!
Any clutch slippage under hard accel.?
I'm not a big fan of the stealerships. So much mark up on parts versus other means, pay prior to the part showing up(it sucks when the wrong part shows up and you are stuck waiting again for the right one, then trying to avoid the restocking fee because part guy blames you...) but they are nice enough to import the bikes and put them together for you(for $500-1000 in extra fees)
Rant off
