Default Modify vs Warranty

I been watching with interest as some of you modify your bike and some buy extended warranties. What is the effect of all this modification on long term reliability and your warranty?

I'm one of those guys who does not buy extended warranties as Kawaski's are rock-solid and if they have no problems in their factory warranty period they'll do just fine. Also I like to ride stock until the factory warranty runs out and then do the mods.

Potentially any modifications could void your warranty. I'm with the general opinion that if some part on the bike failed because of a MFG defent, it will be warrantied. Now if I mess with the carbs and the engine is running super lean and melts the piston or warps the head, or therwise blows the motor... guess what.. that's my fault. If a wheel bearing fails after I installed a stock exhaust... the 2 aren't related and I expect Kawasaki to fix the failed part.

Overall I think bikes are very reliable these days and you don't have much to worry about. This particular motor is considered to be very bulletproof. Hell, it's designed for 300cc.

I don't worry in the least about my mods causing me warranty claim issues down the road. As long as dealer can't prove your work caused the failure, you're golden.k
