Metal Mesh Oil Filters/ Magnetic Drain Plugs
#11
Measured the stock one: the thread on the oil drain plug is 10 x 1.5 mm. Threaded portion 15 mm without the washer in place. I think the magnetic one I have is from Moose, bought it about 4 years ago so the packaging is long gone (and my memory is short).
EDIT: found the part number - Moose Racing M0105.

okay thanks
im going to see what the size were the wrong ones I was sent
just to make sure yours is correct
since ive already spent $30 on drain bolts I cant use, need to make sure this last one is correct
EDIT: saw the plugs I was sent was m12
and I do remember they were too fat to fit
for the paper filter I have these super strong thin magnets
wonder if I can stick a magnet in that spring area that rests against the paper filter
I dont think there is any chance that magnet can go anywhere and would be interesting to see if metal gets stuck there
only 800 more miles to go before I do another change

Mike, do you recall how tall that magnet is? I have a 3/8" wide x 1/2" tall rare earth magnet. As long as there is enough clearance I see no reason not to just stick a magnet on the nut. This one cost about $2.50.

I have a spare one I can measure
but they are also countersunk into the plug and glued in
how far down are they I have no idea
I just dont know if I trust a magnet to just sit on the drain plug because if it pops off your screwed

figure its a tad longer then
6.5mm
I got a bag of these from harbor freight, really strong
but I wouldnt do this myself
but I may use one or more on the filter next time I change it
I need to see if its safe to do so

There's a number of products on the market that allow you to attach magnets to the outside of the oil filter. They're designed for external filters of course, but if that's what you have then they're great. For internal filters I'm still working out what's available, but they're out there.

just didnt want to drop it in there since thats the old filter
but I need to make sure where ever it goes wont have a chance to get into the engine
will have to wait until I change filters

I might have to try this. The whole earth magnets I have are used for meteorite hunting and are the strongest there is for their sizes so I'm not worried about them coming free. I have one under my bike to help trigger light signals and it has never budged.

i use a metal mesh oil filter and bikemaster magnetic drain plug...no problems...no specs or anything on the magnet...i was told by a mechanic to not use a aluminum plug, so i bought a steel version by bikemaster...
