Larger Gas Tank ? ? ?
After my ride today I feel that I'm going to want to put a larger gas tank on the KLX. Due to the nature of some of the surfaces I was riding, the bike was not in 6th gear very much. On a lot of occasions, it was either in 3rd or 4th.
Riding home, the bike hit the reserve at 80 miles. When I filled it up, the mileage was 50 something mpg. As time goes on, I'm sure I will be riding more and more out in this area on this bike.
I think I need a bit more range.

That's a good question. But that's one of the reasons I got this bike instead of the 650. The 650 holds like 6.2 gal of gas, and the 250 holds 1.9 gals. I really don't want to change the stock look too much, but somewhere I saw a small narrow jug that mounts on the handlebar cross member, I might look into that. of course I'm only ridding within 20 miles of town, so I would just like a little insurance. Hey you guys, hurry up and change oil so I can see if you are puzzled by the spring mystery. I would call the dealership, but they are closed on Mondays. LOL later all.

One of us should buy this and experiment:

I think it would fit with little or no mods to the bike. You would likely need to buy the matching side panels too.

I have a much better idea.
Todd, you buy it for me as a Christmas present and I'll experiment, take all sorts of pictures and post my findings.
Ain't that a better alternative? Takes all the guesswork out of it!

I just got off the phone with IMS.
They will not offer that that tank will or will not fit the KLX250S.
There is not a bike available for them to try it on. I offered for them to send me a tank and I'd do the test fitting for them. They only do that in-house.
Dang! Thought I might be able to get a free tank for doing the testing.

I've fired off emails to Clarke, IMS, and Acerbis asking the same thing. If the bid stays near the bottom, I may just get it and give it a shot. I hit reserve at 81 miles again today. That's just too short for me. I need another gallon of fuel some how.
I'm with you on that "need another gallon of gas, somehow" comment.
With the Concours and the KLR650, I don't hesitate to run for about 4 or 5 hours before looking for fuel. 2 hours is not going to cut it. The Ocala National Forest is a big place and I need to have fuel on board for at least 200 miles of riding.
We shall see.

Hey Todd, I would like to find a single or a couple of gas approved containers that will just fit in the pelican cases, I think that would be cool as a backup fuel supply. Let me know if you have any ideas? Later.

Hmmm, well the front one won't work because of the light, and the back one won't work because of the new case I have on it. I just want to find a container that will fit in the case. Those tanks are cool, but I am not going to be too far from home when I get low on gas, and so I think a half gal would get me back ok. Thanks Marty.
