Todd,
Thanks for also sending off emails to Clarke, Acerbis and IMS. Perhaps if they see the heavy requests they might do something.

Some Great News!
Todd,
I've spent the morning on the phone to Acerbis, IMS and Clarke - nothing doing. They will not commit as to whether or not their tanks will fit the KLX250s.
Then I got on the phone to my dealer and told him I have this bike, a KLX250S, which I just bought from him and I want to buy an aftermarket tank so I can ride it further.
The parts guy I was talking to got on the phone and called his engineer at Kawasaki. The response was kind of interesting. While the tank mounts are 1/8 to 3/16 difference on the bikes, he feels that the aftermarket tanks SHOULD fit with little to no alteration.
The petcocks are all the same part number.
His words were, "while the fit may not be the kind of high quality one, it is a dirt bike!"
Hope this helps.
If you want the IMS tank on EBay, I will not bid against you.

Very cool! I missed the latest IMS tank on eBay but sent the guy an email (I know eBay frowns on that but he's listed it twice with no bidders both times). We'll see if he replies. If so, I'm going to get it and try to make it fit.

I am looking seriously at the Acerbis tank. I like the extra .5 gallons.
Plus it does mount outside the frame, thus giving a bit of protection to that.
Now, if Acerbis came out with a Sahara setup for the KLX250S, that would be awesome! 3.7 gallons MORE fuel, under the seat!

Well I picked up a couple of those camp stove fuel bottles, the 22oz size, and they fit perfect in the Pelican case, Thanks again Todd. Now I have a little insurance on those long rides. When I say they fit perfect, I mean you have to push them down and they just fit. I think I can even get a sandwich in there, LOL

Deej,
Thanks for the picture. I was able to find those bottles online. I've been looking at other alternatives, but this one is righteous!
I think they will withstand a small drop in sand without rupturing.
Until I find the tank I want, I'm going to pick up a couple of them to get me home on when I run out of gas. Two of the 33 ounce size should give me about 30 miles of running.
