cwgoff,
Which fans did you order?
2.6 gallons is going to be acceptable but I would still like to see what kind of offering Clarke Manufacturing can come up with. And I concur with you guys. As stock looking as possible with minimal mods.

Get some rest man!
Looks like Tremor38 already has you covered on the fans, but I wanted to point out that the 300 tank is 2.8 not 2.6. I was expecting 2.6 capacity as well, and I am almost positive that the spec says 2.6, but I can tell you from personal experience that the tank hold 2.82 gallons. I performed a very scientific unplanned experiment where I left my petcock on reserve and ran the tank empty. After pushing the bike to the nearest gas station (which was very near and downhill, thankfully) I proceeded to pump exactly 2.82 gallons into the tank. I guess it is possible that the pump was not calibrated exactly right, but I think they monitor volumetric delivery pretty closely since that is the basis for payment. I hope so anyway.

Anyway, if someone asks me the capacity of the tank, I am saying 2.8. I don't plan to do another test, but we will see what happens.

In Canada, you can get either the larger 120mm fans or the smaller 60 mm fans at electrosonic in Toronto:

http://www.e-sonic.com/acc/products....;partIDExt=417

The larger fan is $33.61 Cdn, and the smaller is $6.60 Cdn. The smaller one isn't as environmentally protected from water and vibration, though.

Comair-Roton also has some 80mm fans (Model CR0812MB-A70GL) that look like they might fit (at least from looking an bmwhd's pictures). They have an airflow of 32 CFM and cost $6.78. Just like the smaller fans, they're don't have theenviroshield.

Hey, my bad. That was the initial post from BMWHD when he installed his IMS tank. He ended up going with these 60cm fans instead.

"OK, with the help of Brian (nobrakes) I've got the new fans mounted. I went with weatherproof fans from Comair-Rotron as stated above but I used two smaller units in place of the one big one. The fans are Comair-Rotron part number 032686 and the model number is CR0612HB-D71GL. These are 60x60x15mm and move 17cfm.

I ordered mine from Arrow Electronics (arrownac.com). FWIW, this vendor is awesome! Overnight delivery of the fans even though I didn't place the order until 4pm CDT. Best price I found too.

Anyway, here's some pictures of the fan install:

Fans and bracket (thanks Brian!). Note OEM fan wire harness cut off 1/2" from the OEM fan motor. "

F.Y.I. I ordered Comair-Rotron part number 032686 fans and when chatting with the sales rep he could not confirm their all weather capability. Has any body had these in muck and copious rain to verify their durability?

Tremor,

Here's an idea for anyone who can get a new tank in clear/natural, I did this on my Z400. I bought the natural tank, found where I could easily see the feul level and ran a piece of painters tape down the tank (rounded the ends to make it look perty). Then a can of Krylon Fusion (walmart) semigloss (gloss also available) black paint and you got your black tank with a 'sight window' ! You can make that window as thin as you want. If applied properly, Fusion paint won't come off unless the plastic under it does.....

That's interesting. Apparently 'Fusion'stands-up well to the gas fumes leaching through the plastic. I don't know of many other paints that could do that.

Of course you could always do what my Suzuki T500 did ..... it had a fuel nipple up top of the tank and another down bottom and clear fuel hose between them, instant fuel guage. And that was from the factory back in around1968. [8D]
pic does not show fuel guage it was on the other side

It 'supposedly' molecularly bonds to plastic. IF you follow their directions to prep it correctly it should stand up, I've seen it fail on hurry up jobs where the surface wasn't prepped correctly. If they say to use a certain something to prep it, do it (it's been a year, can't remember). On my CRF230F, I did a flame job on the side plastics. Laid it down a few times and the paint never budged. A rock may have gouged through it, but no different than the surrounding plastic. And it didn't start chipping after a good gouge. On my 2001 Jeep, I used it to paint my flares that turned chalky in 6 months. They are shiny black to this day, and those flares have rubbed many a tree and rock. As far as standing up to feul, don't know, my Z400 tank sealed really well, as any off road vehicles should. If you have fumes coming out anything but that overflow tube, you need a new cap or seal.

The fumes actually come through the plastic because the plastic is porous to some extent. Thats also why you rarely see decals on plastic tanks, sure it will stick at first but the fumes coming through peel the decals off eventually.
