This Was the KLX's Weekend
I was supposed to work, but there was an RV show scheduled this weekend that no one knew about, so my class got re-scheduled. I had the weekend to catch up on stuff that I've been putting off for some time.
One of those things is the rear appearance of the bike. I'm sorry, but Kawaski is NOT going to get any "Style Points" from me for the work they did on the back of the KLX250S. I know what they were trying to do, but it's a freakin' dirt bike (sorry Deej) and it should look like one.
I am sorry, but the above picture does NOT look like the back of a dirt bike should. The one below is starting to get a bit closer.
There will be move improvements, tail light relocation and such. I'm not finished, but this is a good start. The interesting thing is all the parts are already there to do it, quick and simple.
However, most states require a white light shining on the license tag. So I found something called "Lite-N'-Bolts" at Summit Racing. They are for custom cars that need to have them to meet licensing requirements. So I sent away for a set. If they are legal with custom cars, which have a larger tag, then they must be fine for motorcycles!
When I put them on I had my doubts, so I waited until after dark to try and take a picture. You can read the tag with the light put out by the "Lite-N'-Bolts" and that's good enough for me!
Now when I have someone behind me, I can really throw a big roost!

cool Marty. That is EXACTLY what I plan on doing with my bike. that extended tail piece has GOT TO GO..
My friend (who is often following me...) did try to talk me out of it saying something about more roost/ spray coming up... I really couldn't quite make out the words or what his point was....

Hey those look like they work pretty good. I was glad to drop that big hunk of plastic from under my fender as well. I eventually replaced the stock rear fender with this one, though - I like it, it adds at least 3 HP
:

BTW, that's the Wolfman toolbag on the rear fender, which I purchased after I was so impressed with the quality of the tankbag.
Unfortunately, it's been really nice here this weekend, 60 degrees and sunny - perfect for some good trials. But I've got family in town so I couldn't get out. And tomorrow I've got a busy day working, so it doesn't look like I'll get any KLX time in. That's a bummer, too, because my jets and new needle arrived that I've been waiting on for my FCR carb. I was hoping to try out some different settings, but that's not going to happen for at least a few days. But I haven't got my O2 sensor display built yet, so I reckon I should do that first so I can measure the differences.
