for me the lack of a kickstart provison was a turn off from the wr and the way everything is hung off the bike would make laying it on its side very expinsive and don't get me started on relying on a computer in the middle of nowhere

Several friends have the yamaha and are happy with it. Most have disconnected the airbox flapper and exhaust flapper device and they run better just on that. With a pipe you need a tuner and a good known setup or dyno time to get it setup right, most I know got about a grand into them but they run real good. Suspension can be setup real nice too. That said in tight stuff and mt switchback trails I much prefer my klx, it feels light and carrys it weight lower. Guys that ride the yamahas find low end power by gearing real low on these rides, where the klx can get away with a little more gear because it'll lug and chug. If they cost the same it'd be a fair comparison, wr winning IMO. But there's a reason why the yamaha cost more, it's more refined, but more complicated too. kawasaki is real good at milking a model out as long as they can, and it shows. I'm a sucker for that marketing I guess, owning a klx klr and a councours. All 80's technology.

Don't tell your bro that he has a carb in there. He won't like it.

Question

With all respect I doubt that there is such a thing as 2001 WR250R. WRR appeared in 2008. Perhaps we are talking WR250F here? Different bike altogether.
