Default Rollin' on the River Ride Report (&WR250X impressions too)

So I sold my YZ250 and used the money to buy a WR250X to use as a commuter bike while I used the KLX250S as my Commuter/Off-Road bike.

Picked up the WR on Thursday and, due to rain Thursday and Friday mixed with hail, I couldn't get any riding in.

Today was a frikkin gorgeous day even with some gusty winds so I talked my friend Karl into going riding. I was going to have him ride the KLX while I rode the WR so I could get some pics of both bike together but my friggin registration renewal hasn't come back yet so my sticker is not valid and I don't wanna get a ticket.

We headed out to Meeman Shelby State Farm just north of Memphis Tennessee and rode out to the Mississippi River.

I wasn't able to take pics of the ride there, but if I had to sum it up in one word, that word would be "great" but in all CAPS because it was truly a great ride. I am seriously jonesin' for a helmet cam now so if someone has a recommendation, feel free to share with the rest of the class! All the pics I took today were with my little Cannon PowerShot SX110IS (10x optical zoom) because it's so easy to carry.

The roads getting there are twisty with many kiss-your-own-*** kind of curves and a very nice 150° sweeping right-hander that made me start thinking I was in some bizzaro version of NASCAR because it just went on and on and on...

At one point, the road narrows down to a narrow one lane, one way only road lined with trees for 3-4 mile that is more hilly than some trails I've ridden. I even wondered how they got the pavement laid without it running down hill, that's how steep it is....we're talking almost 47° inclines here, no exaggeration.

At the end of the one-lane road, you can head out to Millington or head to the Mississippi where there is a nice little public boat landing in case you want to go boating on the river.

We stopped out there for a bit and I took some shots of the bikes and the river so here they are...

This is a pic of my bike and Karl making sure the battery connection on his 225 is secure because he was having issues with it not starting

Here are a couple shots of the American Beauty River Tug pushing some barges up the Mississippi to St Louis. It's waiting on that tug in the distance to pass before it resumes it's course

Here's a close up of the American Beauty that I took with the Digital Zoom cranked all the way up since it was pretty far away

Impressions of the WR?

All I can say is I grinned the whole day. I'm no small boy (240lbs in gear) and this bike had NO problem accelerating uphill against a headwind with me on it.

I did take it a bit easy on the bike because it was, afterall, it's initial break-in ride. I did get to 83MPH at one point though and decided that was enough for its virgin cruise.

The thing handles great, even with the Bridgestone Battle Axe tires that come stock. I'm thinking the increased cornering prowess is probably due more to the 17" tires than anything else but let me tell you, this thing handles like a Fillet Knife compared to the Meat Cleaver of a KLX I have...

Nice pics! I have kind of the same mentality as you. I am currently using the KLX as my commuter/off road bike but really like idea of the WR250X. I would really prefer a 450 so I am holding out (fingers X). 26,000 mile valve adjustments can't beat that!
