Klx250/300 how to get all the fuel out the Acerbis tank.
Hey, thanks Martin for sharing your R&D. Since I am running stock carb & displacement I'm thinking I could get between 235-250 miles of range with the pump mod. I'm not sure if I will be able to sit through a whole tank without stopping to pee, though.
Ok, thanks. Yeah the Spitfire is on my short-list, but I'm starting to lean toward the MRA, based upon the syle. How is the Spitfire working for you?

Hey, I just did the fuel pump mod to my Acerbis. Took a few short cuts 'cuz I'm LAZY. I didn't take the tank off the bike, just hooked a piece of tubing on the petcock and drained it into a gas can, then shook the bike a bit to lower the fuel a little more. Pulled the petcock out, unscrewed the filter and cut it off at the bottom of the screen. Pull out the little piece of clear tubing and save it for some other project. Screw the stub of the filter back in.Next make a tee out of tubing with two 18" legs and the center one about a foot long. Put a brass nut on the end of the two outside legs to weigh them down to the bottom of the tank. Stick a piece of safety wire up through the bottom of the petcock hole until it comes out thegas cap. Wrap it around the center piece of tubing and pull it out the petcock hole. Cut this tube off short and glue it into the filter stub on the petcock with your favorite gas-proof adhesive. Shove the other two tubes straight down into the wings. Screw the petcock back in and hook the fuel pump to the petcock. You won't have a reserve anymore, watch your tripmeter. I know, I am LAZY. But I did this mod in 15 minutes without taking the tank off. I think if you wanted it bombproof, you could use just one piece of tubing and tip the bike over to get the lastbit of gas from the wing without a tube. Anyway, there's an alternativemethodfor your consideration.
The spitfire works great but it could be an inch or 2 higher. It would not be in my vision yet and would cut all the wind to my helmet. Im just putting my hands over it and it stops all wind noises. But Im very please with it anyway.
Kirkland Jeff, you could have kept the original plastic tubing and keep the reserve. Thats what I did. I was able to insert the tubing in the reserve hole of the petcock, had to grind it a little but I still have reserve. The hardest part was to run the tubing thru the bottom of the tank wings.

Hey, I probably will put the reserve back on, I was just in a hurry to get going for a ride. I found that the pump was overpowering the float valve so had to put in a feedback loop plus an inline filter so I will probably make more mods next time I get a chance. Going on a cruise to Alaska next week but if any NW riders want to make the Wynoochie run on the weekend of July 27th there will be free camping at the Seagate in Moclips for bikers. It's a mostly Harley type event so I think we need some dual sporters to show up and ride the beach without wobbling all over the place. The road is all clear and in great shape from Skokomish valley to 101 via FR23, FR22 & Donkey Creek road.
Howdee,
Just wondering if any of you more technically minded people can tell me some vacuum points on the bike for hooking up a vacuum fuel pump.
Aus-spec carb doesnt have the vacuum breather (where the smog crap is, engine side of the top) the US ones have, its the place where it is has been sealed off. Not sure if I can pull the plug out and screw a connector in there or not? Does the US carb have a brass fitting screwed into that part of the carb? Ive only seen pics of them blocked off with a rubber cap...
Alternatively, does anyone know if I can tap into the crank breather that goes to the airbox? Or is that going to fill my pump with oil and cause problems?
Thanks in advance.
