I heard something from a friend of mine awhile back that kind of made me chuckle. He rides with a local club sometimes, which is made-up mostly of Harley riders. This particular friend just traded-in his 1200 Sportster for a BMW R1100R. He said when he met the group on his BMW for a planned ride, they were all "looking at me probably tinking wow this guy upgraded." He didn't like it very well when I told him I don't think any devout Harley rider would view that as an 'upgrade'

To each his own though. I tease him about the BMW telling him the styling looks very 'metrosexual' while he tells me my motard can't decide what it wants to be. All in good fun.

this may sound generic to non HD fans, but the '04-up 1200 Sportsters are damn fast. They would easily hang with any 600cc sportbike up to 120mph on accleration. My sister has a 1200R Roadster-all stock. I rode it last summer and I could not wipe the smile off my face. The torque is unbelievable. Yes, the larger engines make more torque, but the torque/weight ratio is what makes it so quick. Plus, there's just something about the sound of that engine being wound up to 8000rpm plus.

 

If only they went round corners, and didn't vibrate so much, and were reliable, and weren't ugly, and weren't so expensive ... want me to go on?

 

No we all know about THOSE bikes!

 

Think the Harley "American chopper" fad is quickly dying out. Heard Harley just laid off a lot of employees. Also read that the most bike fatalities in the States are middle aged guys getting back into riding on heavy customs with lack of skill and wearing little protection.

 

Everyday here is national ride to work day.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. as far as handling, you've never ridden a sporty with some sticky Avon rubber apparently. also, ignorance is no excuse. the newer HD's are rubber mounted, and vibration is virtually non-existent, at least no more than any other V-twin. finally, a new HD can be had for around $6500. what's the price on a new Kawi cruiser in the 900cc engine size?
oh, way to support one of the pioneering companies of the USA.

 

I'm not American, and if you actually participated in this forum you would know I rode 3 new Harley's a couple of weeks ago and they still don't handle, they still vibrate, they still don't go round corners and they are still ugly. Oh yeah they are uncomfortable as well. And I ain't paying $20k for any bike, yeah thats what they cost here. Overpriced and overrated totally.

 

Buells ain't Harleys. It's the cheaper HD's that handle, not the gaudy baggers or Softails.
Too bad for you, maybe you should move to the USA then. As for uncomfortable, compared to what? A Ninja? A KLX? please. I've got the horses head.........and you?
