Cool Jetting Advise (so confused)

Hey guys!

I just threw on an HMF slip on and removed the snorkel. I will be adding a K&N Filter too. I live at 4500 feet, and ride anywhere from 4000-8500 feet. I don't understand much about rejetting, I'm pretty new to the motorcycle thing. I am hoping for some jetting suggestions on where to start. So far I'm thinking 40 pilot and 125 main. What else do I need to do? Is that a good number to start on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're living in the rare air up there. Remove the whole airbox lid and let here breath man. Try the #38 pilot as you're in the clouds, #125 main is a good start (get a #128 at the same time just in case.) If you still have the stock needle you'll need to raise it, 1.5mm works well. ( washer or shim works.)

My bike was still stock at this time, but just for reference, I ran it between 8500 and 11000 ft. in Colorado, and It wouldn't even start at 8600ft until I completely removed the airbox lid, and put my new hi-flow air flilter on. With the lid off it ran pretty well, the only problem was some bog at full throttle. I'm curious to see what you end up with with the slipon, because I will be back to Co. and would like to have an idea what jets to have with when I go. Where are you riding at those altitudes?

I just bought a slip on off of Ebay for $120. It is supposedly brand new, I'll be following this thread to find out what you come up with!

WestOzKLX: Thank you! I'll start there and see what happens!

Dan888: I have ridden a few times out of Grand Junction CO, but 90% of my riding is out of Reno, NV. A lot of fire roads snaking through the Sierras and off into the high deserts east of here. I have done a few rides out near the Top Gun flight school range, always fun to stop and watch those guys chase each other.

Thanks for the help! I'll keep you all posted. Any further suggestions are appreciated.

Been through Grand Junction, but not on the bike. I was up around the Estes Park area. I did get down around the Moffat Railroad tunnel / Rollins pass area ( straight west of Denver) Lot's of great riding in Co. Anywhere you can find some old beat up fire/forest acess roads it's a good time.
Pic is on Rollins pass, an old rail bed = lots-o-fun. Oh yeah, this is in the middle of July at 10,000ft or so.

132 and 40 for me and I'm at 300 ft. I ride up to around 3500 sometimes. Above that and the engine starts to lose a little power and has a slight hesitation.
