Default Interested in a KLR 250

I have a KLX250SF and have the urge for something for riding the fireroads outside of town here in Vegas. I just missed an 03 KLR250 on CL. I really like the looks of the bike. Does anyone here have any experience with them? I checked the KLR250 part of the forum and it was dead.

I don't want to swap tires or anything like that on my SF. I guess one needs 3 bikes; commuter, trail and road.

Thanks

You mean the one with less than 3000 miles, for 1500? Wouldn't run, fuel leaking from carb...it will need some work. They come up fairly often, if you have the time to keep looking. An XT200 (or, was it a 225? Hmmm...brain freeze) or XT250 is similar to the KLR250 in my mind...maybe expand to include those bikes?

I had an "85" KLR 250 and loved it. I've only owned that and the 07 KLX I have now, so I have a limited perspective. What I can tell you is that it had a bigger tank, 2.5 gal I think, a wider softer seat, valve clearance was much easier to adjust. simply remove the cover loosen a jam nut and use a screw driver to turn the adjuster to set the gap then re snug the jam nut. Mine was kick start only , dont know about the later years. Forks were older style. That's kind of rambling there, but all in all it was a tough bike, I beat the crap out of it and didn't know how to take good care of it. I bought it in 1988 for $1000 and sold it in 2007 for $700. Sold it because I bought the KLX. You will have to research what changes they did to them over the years, but I dont think there was too much changed.

Naw, this one had 2300 miles with no issues for $1800. I would have got it, but I transposed the first two numbers of the guys phone and I couldn't figure out why the line was busy all the time.

I'm in no rush. There's a 91 in Tucson, I've asked a friend to go take a look at. $700. For as little as I'll probably get to do that kind of riding, that sounds right up my alley, if it's in decent shape.
