Default KLX 250 vs. KlR 250

Ok I'm the new guy to this forum. I have a couple of big heavy cruisers and I'm looking to buy a dual sport. Whats the difference in the KLX 250s (2006 or 2007)and the KLR 250 (95 model)

I have just about wore the computer out sufing ebay, cycletrader and a bunch more that I cant remember. I'm getting tired of research and want to buy before the snow starts flying!

There is a good chunk of money differnence between the two.

thanks, for your hep

Same engine and generally a pretty similar machine in many aspects and capability.
The biggest difference is in the looks, suspension and brakes (in that order). One nice feature about the KLR is the larger fuel tank.

I think the KLR is a kick start only while our bike is an e-start only. Was the 95 KLR water cooled? I'm just asking to get the differences listed, I don't know the answers. The KLR is a good bike though, but the KLX looks and handles better. At least my bike does better than a 03 KLR I rode last year. The KLR is pretty much bullet proof and has a history that goes back 20 years. But the KLX I think has more ground clearance, USD forks and other features. It just depends on what you are looking for.

I truly see no reason to take a KLR over a KLX if you can afford to do so :/

The KLR does offer the superior kick start capability but is liquid cooled.

I just realized I asked you folks to compare the 95 KLR 250. I meant to write comparison between the KLR 250 (2005 model).

Thanks for your input. Nothing like getting it straight from the guys that ride them all.

KLR series is one of those series of bikes that just doesn't change over the years.

Just like the KLX, over the past 20+ years they've basically gotten new graphics and a few minor refinements here and there. They're the same bikes for the most part though.

If you've got the 500 USD to spend ontop of the KLXs MSRP, you have a quicker, lighter, better suspended and better handling bike, + 300 into a kickstart kit, and 100-200 into a larger tank.

klx is better..... klr is more of a light dual sport i feel, i have ridden with both, the klr feels heavier than my klx too... i dont think it is, but it feels like it... To me, the klx replaced the klr.
