insurance question from a noob
ERC? BRC? beginners riders course.... whats the other? i thaught it was called advanced riders course... id like to try that..... i got to ride a drz200 on the course....
Experienced rider course....You were lucky if you had a DRZ200....we had these POS zuki 250 cruzer bikes...they sucked!!!! every time i shut mine off before i could restart it i had to pull the key and open the gas cap to vent it because it vapor locked....I have NO rear brake on the bike at all either....I even took the bike off the course to sho my instructor that i adjusted the drum brake rod as far as it would go......we both chuckled ...he asked if i was uncomfortable riding it like that and i said no ....I took the whole class on a bike with no rear brake.I got kudos for that especially in the panic stop section ....It was kind of fun...I wanted to try to stoppie it but the front brake just was no where near strong enough to even think about it...Lol...besides...your never going fast enough anyway to be in a MUST for the rear brake in the class.....Like said ...the class is for noobs but i still had fun...My instructors were great .
my instructor was ok.... he knew his stuff... and he said something to me a couple times about messing around a little... i dont get the whole look and u will go there...... not me.... i can look all around and not go there.... and i got yelled at for that.... not looking where i wanna go..... lol.... o well.... i know my skill level and ride well within it.

you MUST look where you want to go........I use that to run some hard S-curves near me and they arn't kidding....it works.....practice....It's called object avoidence.Look thru the corner....pick a point.....then look further thru the corner and then try to avoid that first point you picked out......bet you can't do it on the first few tries......These are the points of the class!!!!! you think you are good enough but in reality you are not!
Here is an interesting thought, that may or may not have been said in the 3 pages here; have you even considering calling a few agents and or getting an online quote from Progressive and or Geico .com?
Because no matter what anyone writes here, no two people are 100% alike and no insurance company in the world is gonna give a rats behind when you say "well someone on the internet said they only paid $50, but you are charging me $75"

im going to get my bike on friday, i dont care what i have to do...im just not going to get insurance or a license, what are the chances a cop is going to pull someone over on a dual sport bike, haha its not like u can speed really on a 250 unless you're absolutely trying too...i mean seriously, if i just drive normal i wont even get pulled over...no need for insurance or license...im already experienced anway, i used to race my yz 125 for three years...this is just my first experience with a dual sport...

Hey, stuff happens, just ask my wife and kids who "ran out for a quick run to the store" and as they were waiting to make a left turn into our very one driveway at our very own house, on our very own street were plowed into by some dude in a pick up who didn't have insurance. You know, he was driving under the speed limit, what was the worse that could happen right? Well, he took his eye's off the road (his statement to the police) and hit them before he looked up, slammed into them at 45 MPH, never touched the brakes.
Who pays for that? I'll let you know when the lawsuit if over and I own every single thing he used to...don't be stupid, get insurance, there is a reason why it is mandatory in almost all states.

you said:
1) "look through the corner"
2) "pick a point"
3) "look further through the corner"
if you are "looking further through the corner" then you will not go to the "point you picked" you will go "further through the corner" which is the last place you looked.
AGAIN: you will go to step #3 not number #2
my BASIC very basic MSF instructors told me: "dont look down cause if you do you will go down"
this maybe true for a brand new rookie that has never ridden ANY kind of bike but it is not true to us.
I can lean my bike (Far)while I look down and correct stuff on the bike (ex: fuel reserve ****).
I can look a total of 220* back (or more) while driving at any speed above 10mph (and with 1 hand)
and I am just a novice/intermediate
yea me too ezrollin.... i just dont get the look and its where u will go.... no. its not. i can be looking at a pothole and avoid it right in front of me... but i will try what ya suggested truckman, see if i can do it on my street bike.
I was suggesting obstacle avoidance.......in a curve. It's something they will get into in the ERC class. The point may be a pothole or a deer (moving target)...either way it is object fixation. If you fixate your view on an object you will more than likely hit it, which is why they teach this....If you practice looking thru the turn you will see that it is very interesting until you get the hang of it.I too can do just what you guys say and reach down and do things while turning and accelerating and slowing......but the object here is self improvement to be a good rider and get good insurance rates.
